Funding options

Paying for your childcare.

We’re proud to be able to offer our children the best start in life—but we don’t just stop there. We also offer guidance and support to parents so they can feel confident in their decision to send their child to us, and so they can rest assured that they are getting exactly what they need.

We understand that paying for childcare isn’t always easy which is why we welcome funded children and encourage parents to make use of the funded hours offered to them. How many funded hours you get depends on how old your child is and your family circumstances.

Tax-free childcare

You can receive up to £2,000 per child per year – that’s up to £500 every three months. If you have a child with additional needs, you can receive up to £4,000 per child – that’s up to £1,000 every three months.

For working families in the UK, including self-employed individuals, who earn under £100k and at least £152 per week  on average (equivalent to 16 hours at the National Minimum or Living Wage) per person who are not getting Tax Credits, Universal Credit, or Salary Sacrifice  with children (0–11) (or 0-16 if disabled).

The government will contribute £2 for every £8 you deposit pay online, up to a maximum of £2,000 per child every year.

How to apply for tax-free childcare

A Government Gateway account must already be established for you to apply for Tax-Free Childcare. If you are self-employed and follow the instructions, you may be prompted for your National Insurance number, also known as a Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR). You may learn the answer right away, but confirmation may take up to seven days.

Please ensure that the Pixieland Day Nursery your child attends is the one you select when setting up your application ( this is important ) You will need to go into your account each month and send your payment to Pixieland when it has been correctly set up. Please let your nursery manager know your Unique Payment Reference number.

How to apply for 15 hours funded childcare

If your child is between 3 and 4 years old, contact your nearest Pixieland nursery. You will be walked through the process and asked for proof of eligibility, such as birth certificates or passports. Simply put, it’s that easy!

To be eligible for a 2 year old, you must receive written confirmation from your local authority. If you are eligible, you will receive funding for the term that follows your application. You will need to show the confirmation to the manager of the Pixieland nursery where you have chosen to enroll. There are a limited number of funded places available for 2 year olds, so you will need to contact your nursery manager first for availability.

How to apply for 30 hours funded childcare

The 30 hours funding is different from the 15 hours funding because not every child is eligible. To do it properly, you will need to set aside about 20 minutes – we’ve explained how below.

Keep this in mind! Pixieand needs your code every three months to confirm your 30 hours eligibility. Forgetting might mean you lose your funding for the following term, so any time that isn’t covered by the basic 15 hours scheme will require you to pay our standard fee.

Step 1

Visit the government website gov.uk/apply-30hours-free-childcare and apply for your 30 hours eligibility code.

Step 2

Apply for your 30 hours eligibility code, you’ll need your National Insurance number. 16 weeks before your child’s third birthday is the earliest you can apply.

Step 3

A decision might be instant, but it can also take up to seven days.

Step 4

Ensure that your chosen Pixieland nursery has your National Insurance number, full name and date of birth, as well as your child’s birth certificate or passport.

Step 5

Your eligibility needs to be re-confirmed every three months – this is really important!

Submit your funding code.

The deadline to apply for a 30 Hour Code if your child turns three during Spring and will be eligible to receive funding for the first time from April is 31st March 2023.

For more information about getting a code or renewing your current code, please visit www.gov.uk/30-hours-free-childcare or call HMRC 0300 123 4097.
