Encouraging the children to be independent
At Pixieland Saltash we encourage our children to be strong independent individuals.
We provide tools to help children build upon their own confidence and supporting their abilities in learning.
In pre- school we encourage the children to self serve their own lunch in preparation for primary school. Children are asked to take to take a lunch tray similar to those used at school, collect cutlery and serve their own food. Staff are present to help, support and guide them should the children need it. Before they start their lunch they do a rhyme of circle, square, heart we can start.
They enjoy this rhyme to mark the start of their lunch. They are also shown how to cut their food with knives and forks. The children enjoy this and often call themselves" big boys and big girls" giving them a sense pride and achievement.
When finished the children will empty their trays and stack them them independently. This is all building upon skills to ensure they are becoming ready for the next stage of their education "big school" as they refer to it.
